Why won’t anyone support my weight loss goals?

Anonymousgirl asked:

I am under 5′5″ and I weigh a heavy 150 lbs and I need to lose weight. I’ve been going to the gym more and have improved my lung and heart funcs., which my doctor is really impressed with- I’m motivated!. The trouble that I have is with eating, so I need to learn to eat less and new habits.
However I feel like the people close to me don’t want me to lose weight. I was once told that my weight gain (I used to be 125 lbs) was probably “natural and healthy”– gaining 30 pounds of fat is NOT natural OR healthy! I’m not losing weight to be the next Kate Moss, I am losing weight for me. But a lot of my friends and relatives tell me to not lose more than 5 pounds and so forth. At the same time, when I DID gain weight, they were always the ones to point it out and poke fun. What gives?
I plan on losing this weight over 6 or more months, so I’m not starving or anything. But I keep being told that I shouldn’t be thin because noone’s used to seeing me thin and other crap.
Yes, many of my family members are overweight– my mother is the only one who is a healthy thin body figure out of 9 kids.

And sorry laura but I think “The Secret” is a bunch of bull.

“Law of Attraction” – Simply put, the more of what you are thinking you create more of.

    The bottom line? Its you.

Focus on this affirmation. “People close to me support me in my health as I effortlessly drop the weight.”

you shouldn’t listen to them making fun of you or anything, just be happy with you. The weight you want on YOUR body is really what matters. I wouldn’t pay attention to anything they say when they make fun of you. what matters is that you’re happy. sounds cheesy, but i find if you’re happy with yourself it doesn’t matter what anyone else says. good luck =]

Do it for yourself and just ignore their comments. More than likely they are jealous of your success and the effort that you are putting forth.

I lost 110 lbs the entire time my ex-husband (who was my husband at the time) was torturing me by eating ice cream and other crap in front of me. The only one who matters is you because you are the only one who can change yourself.

Congrats on your choice to lose the healthy way and keep up the good work!!

Wow, that really is terrible. I have lost a little over 30 lbs in the past couple months and have heard nothing but positives from friends/family.

I’m sure that once you drop enough to notice a difference you will start getting the “wow, you look good”.

All I can say is do what you need to and the support should follow.

Don’t worry about what others think, they are probably just want to see you fail. Maybe they are jealous, are they overweight? If you want to lose wt. and are feeling healthier because you lost some I congratulate you. If you are motivated to lose more all the better for you as long as you do it in a heathy way and you said your Dr. approves.

I’m really sorry to hear that you don’t feel supported in your weight loss. It is really hard for us to get the people around us who “love us how we are” to see that “we” aren’t happy with how we are. I’m going through the same thing. The way I look at it, ‘I’ need to be happy with me.

I will go with the “crabs in a basket” theory. A teacher gave a motivational speech and used that analogy. When crabbing, and you try to get a crab out of the basket, the other crabs will grab and hold on to the other crab, not wanting to let go.?? why i don’t know?. any way. Some people (family!!!) just do not want others to try, makes em’ look bad.! A lot of times it bothers them to see some one improve ?? some of my friends were that way in tech-school. Hated to see me move on. I’ll support you! (metaphorically speaking!) I need to shape up myself. (im sure in the crab situation, they might think they are saving there buddy from the pot. (Literally)
